RYAN ADAMS
Born David Ryan Adams, 5 November 1974, Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA. Adams' first foray into music was with high school punk band, Patty Duke Syndrome, fuelled by influences such as the Dead Kennedys and Sonic Youth. However, first experiences of love-turned-sour converted Adams to country and folk as he searched for a musical genre which could embody his feelings.
Among the many casualties of the 1998 merger of Universal and Polygram were alternative country darlings Whiskeytown, whose label, the Geffen - distributed Outpost Records, was lost in the corporate shuffle that followed. With a completed record in the can and no label to release it, lead singer/ songwriter Ryan Adams opted to work on solo projects. Adams' solo debut album, a collection of bittersweet ballads and honky tonk - flavored rockers called Heartbreaker, was released on the Chicago - based roots - rock/ country label Bloodshot Records in September 2000. Ryan Adams is the exceptional songwriter and voice behind Whiskeytown. Whiskeytown has been an at times turbulent project and in September 2000 his solo album "Heartbreaker" was released. The unreleased Whiskeytown record "Pneumonia" was also finally released in May 2001. Ryan Adams has been known to be controversial in interviews and on-stage; but it has been said that he is starting to mellow now he has hit his mid-twenties... Nowadays, it’s getting harder and harder to find information or any existing evidence of Ryan Adams…what with the success of Bryan Adams whose name is similar enough that he swamps the search engines, drowning out Ryan’s talent. |
