MICRONAUTS
Remember these? What ever happened to them? Well, the history is very interesting. Micronauts were a favorite group of toys introduced to the market by Mego toys in the early 1970's. They were actually a remake of a Japanese line of toys called Microman. What was so wonderful about these toys was their 5mm peg hole system that allowed you to interchange parts from one toy to another. Perfect for collecting and trading.
The success story would have continued had it not been for Star Wars toys. Mego had actually turned down the idea. Star Wars took over the market explosively. That was Mego’s first mistake which was followed by 2 others: the licensing of The Black Hole and Star Trek the Motion Picture, both of which were box office failures.
That finished Mego and they filed for bankruptcy. Other companies picked up the line in different forms called The Interchangeables and The Lords of Light. Some of these imitations were released in foreign countries like Canada and Italy and these are some of the hardest ones to find today. There are lots of enthusiasts out there still searching for their favorite Micronauts.
