GREENDAY
Emerging as one of the most promising bands in the early '90s, Green Day hit the music business full force. It's insanely intense drums, fast-pace vocals and riveting guitars won the respect of thousands of fans. Green Day consisted of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool.
Bille Joe and Mike, long friends, had been playing together from a young age and performed small acts together. They formed a small band called 'Sweet Children' with drummer John Kiffemeyer but would soon drop him after the perfect drummer would come their way. The band The Lookouts, who disbanded in 1990 joined Green Day after Billie Joe was featured in a few of their tracks. They fired John Kiffemeyer by replacing the tremendously skilled Tre Cool. They changed Sweet Children to Green Day after their fondness for marijuana.
With the band fully formed and ready, they started to pursue their dream. Signing with Warner Brothers and Records they recorded 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, their debut album in 1991. This record was a hit but their sophomore album, Kerplunk! (1992) gave them the lift up they needed. This lift proved valuable when releasing their third album Dookie in 1994 - going mainstream and platinum, selling over 9 million copies. This success was probably carved from their non-stop touring.
Their follow-up album, Insomniac was pretty disappointing compared to Dookie, and quickly suppressed. Their following album was Nimrod, a huge success that promoted their fame and fortune even more so, a desperately needed album to make up for Insomniac's embarrassment. They are expected to recorded a new long awaited album this year.
