DR. SEUSS

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope and that enables you to laugh at life's realities." - Theodor Seuss Geisel

SIMPSON SEUSS

Dr. Seuss, otherwise known as Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in the town of Springfield, MA. Springfield is the home of the animated family of Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie and Bart Simpson. The word is still out or not if Matt Groening was paying homage to the great creator.

A BICYCLE BUILT FOR TWO

Theodor was also a graduate of Dartmouth and attended Oxford University where he met his wife, Helen Palmer. And although Theodor left an everlasting impression on millions of children around the world, he never had any children of his own.

OLD ONION

Theodor fine-tuned his funnybone by joining the team of America's largest humor magazine, "The Judge". He also contributed to Liberty, Life and Vanity Fair.

OSCAR SEUSS

During World War 2, he esculated to the rank of Captain Seuss and wrote for Frank Capra's Signal Corps Unit. He then created the cartoon character, Gerald McBoing Boing which gained him an Oscar win. He also worked with Chuck Jones during this time and created the characters, "Private Snafu" and "Seaman Tarfu", the acronym "Snafu" meaning "Situation Normal, All Fouled Up" and "Tarfu", standing for "Things Are Really Fouled Up".

250 WORDS

Working from a list of 250 words, those a first grader would easily be able to digust, Seuss wrote his first children's, "The Cat in the Hat". It took him nine months and he used only 220 of the words. The book was an instant hit.

THE CAT IN THE HAT

Even though it is a book written for children, "The Cat in the Hat" has been referred to as a hard-hitting novel of prose and poetry where the author re-examines the dynamic rhyming schemes and bold imagery of some of the his own earlier works. Even though this novel is only 61 pages in length and can be read in as little as six minutes, it is not until multiple readings that the subtle genuis of this masterpiece becomes apparent.

CATTUS PETASATUS

Two of his works have been translated into Latin, "The Cat in the Hat" otherwise known as "CATTUS PETASATUS" and "Quomodo Invidiosulus Nomine Grinchus Christi Natalem Abrogaverit", better known as "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".

HOME ALONE

Just like, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", "The Cat in the Hat" is soon to be a major motion picture. Conrad and Sally Walden, played by actors Spencer Breslin and Dakot Fanning, find themselves all alone at home with their pet fish. It is raining outside with nothing else to do. That is until The Cat in the Hat, played in full-force by funnyman Mike Myers, bounds through the front door and introduces them to their own imaginations. Things are all fun and games at first, until things get way out of hand, and The Cat must go, go, go, before their
mother gets back.

SEUSSVILLE

"The Cat in the Hat" was a large lavish production and the pink-housed village in the film was built especially for the movie in Moorpark, California. The full scale town sat on a hillside just south of the 118 freeway. When it was first constructed many local residents complained to their elected officials about how such an outlandish housing development project could be allowed to have been built in their little town. The townspeople were quickly assured it was just a movie set and it would be torn down upon completion of filming and by December 2002, it was all removed.

NEW HAT

Until recently Bo Welch has been an Oscar-nominated film production designer, he now makes his debut as a film director with "The Cat in the Hat." He has previously directed for television with credits including episodes of "The Tick" and "Secret Agent Man." His production design credits include such diverse films as "A Little Princess" and "Men in Black," both of which brought him Academy Award nominations, as well as "Men in Black 2," "The Birdcage," "Batman Returns," "Beetlejuice" and "Edward Scissorhands."

MISCHIEVOUS FELINE VISITOR

"The Cat in The Hat" was first published in 1957 and remains one of the Top 10 best-selling hardcover books of all time. "The Cat in the Hat" house party starring Mike Myers hits theatres this Thanksgiving.
